Skyride prize winner collects his £1000 electric bike

The lucky (and very happy) winner of the Leicester Skyride prize draw to win a £1000 electric bike came in to the Ebike Centres showroom today to collect his chosen bike.

David Simons, a Fleckney resident, had already been in a few days before to select his bike. After taking several of our wide range of test bikes for a ride he eventually settled on a Raleigh Velo XC. Although he liked many of the other bikes he felt that the Raleigh Velo XC gave him the comfort, range and seating position that he was looking for.

The £1000 electric bike was offered by Ebike Centres as a prize during this years Leicester Skyride. The only thing a cyclist had to do to enter the prize draw was select any bike from the wide range of electric bikes on display – and take it for a short test ride! The reason for the event was to overcome many of the preconceptions and misconceptions that still exist about ebikes.

The day was a huge success with hundreds of cyclists stopping to try out an electric bike. The response was almost unanimous – “Wow!”.

The lucky winner was drawn at the end of the day by the Mayor of Leicester, Sir Peter Soulsby, who said: “I am so pleased with the work Ebike Centres is doing as they are bringing cycling to Leicester for people who wouldn’t usually cycle. They are showing both vision and confidence in the future role of electric bikes for commuting and travel in the city. Combined with Leicester’s new cycle lanes, hopefully more people will use bikes instead of cars for their daily commute.”

David Simons, the winner of the bike, commented: “The best thing about electric bikes is their speed and power. I’ve always liked cycling but I am usually quite fearful of cycling on the roads as normal bikes are just too slow. Electric bikes are just so much faster. These bikes don’t take up as much room as a car and they don’t pollute the city”.

Now retired, the Fleckney resident will be using his newly acquired electric bike for long cycle rides around Leicestershire’s countryside.
