Many customers have asked us recently if we would accept their bike as trade in for a new one, or if we can sell their used electric bike for them. At the same time we have received a lot of requests for second hand bikes. So this is a service which we are now happy to offer.
If you bought your bike from Ebike Centres you can now advertise it through our very popular website for a small advertising fee and a commission, with many extra benefits.
For this we will promote your bike through our popular website and city centre showroom, and we will provide the buyer with a full service and three month warranty.
We also accept payments by debit and credit card, which makes selling your bike even easier.
We are not selling your bike. You are selling it and we are just promoting it. So after our fees are deducted the balance is yours, without VAT. This is great if you have just finished paying for your bike through ‘Cycle to Work’ or our 0% financing, as you can go straight ahead and apply for your next bike.
As a special concession to customers who are using the money to buy a brand new bike we will put the whole amount, without deducting our 20% commission, towards a new electric bike bike. So you can upgrade to the latest and best without losing a penny!
You originally bought your bike for £1000 and sell it through us for £600. We keep the advertising fee of £10 per month. Then you have a choice:
1. Take the cash: We keep £120 as our commission and pay you the balance of £480
2. Upgrade to a new bike: We keep the full £600 as deposit towards a new bike and you just pay the balance. Therefore you sold your bike for free.
Our Leicester store has been open since March 2013. You are probably aware that a manufacturer’s warranty expires as soon as you sell a bike – it can never be carried across to the next owner.
Clearly there is a point at which we cannot continue to offer a 3 month warranty to a new owner at our own risk. Normally this will be 3 months before the original warranty would expire.
So, for example, a FreeGo battery warranty is 24 months. We will offer our own 3 month warranty to any FreeGo bike up to 21 months old.
Similarly for Viking, where the manufacturer’s warranty is 12 months, we will offer our own warranty until the bike is 9 months old from the date you originally purchased it from us.
After this we can still sell your bike but without our 3 month warranty. We also reserve the right to not offer a 3 month warranty if your bike is in poor condition.
However, until 1 November 2014, we will waive the time limit on all bikes which were bought from us and sell your bike with our own 3 month warranty at our risk. After 1 November the normal time limits will apply.
