National Bike Week begins

Today marks the start of National Bike Week and we are excited to see people taking to the cycle lanes of Leicester. We always look forward to this annual opportunity to promote cycling, as we believe that cycling is for everyone, especially when it comes to electric bikes. Riding an electric bike is easy for everyone and can help to improve your health, as well as your carbon footprint on the environment.

Demonstrating the social, health and environmental benefits of cycling, the week aims to get people to give cycling a go all over the UK; whether this be for fun, as a means of getting to work or school, the local shops or just to visit friends. The 2016 event will take place 11-19th June but events still take place through September and beyond!

This year’s National Bike Week is especially important to us as it has a ‘cycle to work’ theme. Ebikes are hugely popular with commuters as an alternative to cars and buses, for a multitude of reasons.
To encourage others to bike to work, many people organise special events and take part in ‘buddy’ rides with colleagues, scope out the easiest route to their place of work or take part in work place challenges.

Here are just some of the ideas that people have come up with:
Bike breakfast: reward those who have cycled to work with a coffee and pastry! After all, they say that breakfast is the most important meal of the day.
Dr Bike: work with your local bike shop or bike recycling centre to perform bike health checks and tune ups.
Buddy ride: arrange to meet colleagues or friends and show them the easiest route to ride to work, the shops etc.
Social ride: organise a social / fun ride for new cyclists in your area. You’ll meet new people, have fun together and encourage more people to get out and cycle. After all cycling with friends is more fun.
Raise money for charity: get together with friends and make up your own cycle challenge to raise money for good causes.

If you want to get involved with the hype for NBW, just use the hashtag #BikeWeekUK – we will be tweeting every day and would love to hear from you.
